Message formatting guideline (Bold, Italic & more)
WhatsApp formats text with simple symbols around the words. They work in templates, broadcasts, chatbot replies and the inbox.
- 1
Bold
Put an asterisk on each side: *Diwali Sale* → **Diwali Sale**.
- 2
Italic
Underscores: _limited stock_ → _limited stock_.
- 3
Strikethrough
Tildes: ~₹1,999~ ₹1,299 → shows the old price crossed out.
- 4
Monospace
Three backticks: ```ORDER-1042``` — useful for codes and order numbers.
- 5
Lists and quotes
Start a line with “- ” or “* ” for a bullet, “1. ” for a numbered list, and “> ” to show a quote.
- 6
Use the toolbar
In the message box, select the words and click B, I or S — the symbols are added for you, and the preview shows the result.
Good to know
- No space between the symbol and the word: *bold* works, * bold * doesn't.
- Emoji are fine — one or two make a message friendlier; a row of them reads as spam.
- Line breaks show as written. A blank line between short paragraphs is easier to read on a phone.
